Surgeries

Our veterinarians provide many surgical services at our clinic, ranging from routine to advanced procedures. Because we want to ensure that our patients receive the best possible outcome, we occasionally refer them to specialists (board-certified veterinary surgeons) to perform complex operations when advanced equipment or training will be beneficial.

Our veterinary team always takes precautions to ensure that your pet receives a safe anesthetic, geared specifically for them. We perform a physical exam and pre-anesthetic testing before surgery, we monitor your pet during surgery, and provide pain medication throughout recovery.

  • Spaying – Females

Spaying your pet prevents female animals from becoming pregnant and reproducing, and can help them live longer, healthier lives.

By spaying your female pet, you’re protecting her against potentially deadly diseases, including bacterial infections, reproductive tract diseases, and several types of cancer. You also won’t have to worry about her going into heat – and it won’t change her personality.

On the day of your pet’s surgery appointment, she’ll arrive first thing in the morning, and her surgery will take place later in the morning. She’ll stay with us for the majority of the day so we can monitor her and ensure a proper recovery. A pickup time will be scheduled later in the day so we can review homecare instructions with you, and answer all of your questions.

  • Neutering – Males

Neutering prevents male animals from reproducing, and can help them live longer, healthier lives.

By neutering your pet, you’re reducing or eliminating his risk for prostate and testicular cancer, as well as sexually transmitted diseases. Neutering also reduces or eliminates undesirable and embarrassing behaviour, including roaming, fighting, humping, and spraying. It also helps control the dog and cat overpopulation problem, keeping more animals out of shelters. While it can sometimes help curb a dog’s urge to wander and become territorial over a female, it won’t change his personality

  • Soft Tissue Surgeries

Soft tissue surgeries are those not associated with bone. Probably the most common soft tissue surgery we perform on pets is the removal of masses or lumps. Once removed and tested, most are found to be benign (non-harmful), however, occasionally they’re more serious. If a lump is cancerous, for example, early removal and accurate diagnosis can greatly improve the outcome! This is why regular visits to the doctor are so important – we can find these lumps and immediately take care of them.

If your dog suffers from frequent ear infections, we can do surgery to reduce the occurrence by improving airflow into the ear canal.

Surgery can also help resolve several eye-related problems, which involve chronic eye infections, or a condition called entropion, where the eyelashes actually damage the cornea. Surgical intervention improves the pet’s comfort, reduces chances of corneal scarring, and enhances the pet’s vision in the long term.
