REGISTERED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN

Yet another team member who wears a variety of hats around the clinic, there’s not a whole lot that Cynthia CAN’T do. Not only is she an exquisite veterinary technician, having graduated from Dalhousie University in 2016, but she’s an amazing baker, an absolute wizard with crafts, and among the top 0.5% worldwide Taylor Swift listeners on Spotify. In fact, she’s been to three Taylor Swift concerts, which is three more than most people! Cynthia shares her house with a very rambunctious pug named Gus, along with a small army of cats who are planning to take over first the house, and then the world. When she’s not doing crafts, spoiling her cats, or attending concerts, you can usually find Cynthia exploring all the hiking trails that Newfoundland has to offer! If you see her around the clinic, ask about her selfie with Taylor Swift! They’re basically besties.

Fun Questions

  • Memorial story about a pet you’ve treated.

Many years ago, a 14-year-old shih tzu came into the clinic and required a emergency life saving surgery. In the owner’s eyes, age did not matter, and she would do whatever it took to save her life. We were able to quickly get her into surgery and remove the problem. I was able to do my first ever blood transfusion all by myself. As a new technician, this was such a learning experience that I will never forget. Following surgery, this patient lived many more healthy years because of our team.

  • What is your pet’s name and why did you choose it?

Cornelius – My favourite artist is Taylor Swift, and there is a song called “Cornelia Street” based on a street in NYC. While taking a solo trip to NYC, I was able to visit this area of town. When I got my kitten, I knew it only made sense to name him after such special memories.

Serious Questions

  • What inspired you to work in this industry?

Growing up, I had a dog named Gizmo, who loss the use of her back legs at a young age. Following this incident, my parents were able to bring her to an emergency vet, and receive a back surgery which, with the use of rehabilitation, was able to begin walking again. Being apart of her journey and seeing the care she received, I knew this was something I wanted to do in the future.

  • How do you stay updated with the latest developments in veterinary care?

I love to be able to go to conferences and get the latest up to date information from peers. Being able to connect to people in person is also very rewarding.
